FAQ
Everything you might want to know before joining.
Sahaja Yoga is a unique method of meditation founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi in 1970. The word "Sahaja" means spontaneous and "Yoga" means union — together, spontaneous union with the Self. Through a process called Self-Realisation, a subtle energy known as Kundalini awakens within us, bringing about a state of inner silence and balance. Unlike other techniques, this awakening happens effortlessly and can be experienced in a single session.
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi (1923–2011) was a spiritual teacher and humanitarian born in Nagpur, India. Learn more at shrimataji.org. She dedicated her life to offering Self-Realisation freely to all of humanity, regardless of background, religion, or belief. She travelled the world for over 40 years sharing Sahaja Yoga at no cost, firmly believing that spiritual knowledge can never be sold. Today, Sahaja Yoga is practised in over 100 countries.
Not at all. Sahaja Yoga is designed for complete beginners and experienced meditators alike. There is nothing to study in advance, no special postures required, and no equipment needed. All you need is an open mind and a comfortable place to sit. Our instructors will guide you through everything step by step during each live session.
Each live Zoom session runs approximately 45–60 minutes. It begins with a short talk on the day's theme — such as managing stress, anxiety, or emotional balance — followed by a guided Sahaja Yoga meditation. You will be gently guided to experience a state of thoughtless awareness, where the mind becomes calm and the nervous system settles. Sessions are interactive and you are welcome to ask questions.
Yes — completely and always. Shri Mataji established from the very beginning that Sahaja Yoga would never be charged for, as one cannot pay for one's own spiritual growth. There are no hidden fees, no premium tiers, and no upsells. This 7-day course, like all Sahaja Yoga programmes worldwide, is offered entirely free of charge.
Just a device with Zoom installed (computer, tablet, or phone), a stable internet connection, and a quiet comfortable space to sit. Once registered, you will receive the Zoom link by email. We recommend joining 5 minutes early to get settled. Wearing comfortable clothing and sitting on a chair or the floor are both perfectly fine.
No — all sessions are live only and will not be recorded. We encourage you to attend each session as the experience of guided meditation in a live group setting is an important part of the journey. If you would like to continue practising after the course, our instructors can point you to ongoing free Sahaja Yoga classes in your area and online.
